Preservation of the Ruins

To preserve these important ruins, the surface of actual structural remains is covered with two layers; over 30 cm mounds for protection and earth fill for park embankment. The Yayoi village has been reborn atop the original ruins without damaging the valuable ruins.

Yoshinogari Historical Park is for the preservation and use of the Yoshinogari ruins, a national special historic site symbolizing our nations culture. Research was conducted not only in the field of archeology but in every kind of related scholarship for authentic reconstruction.

First, it was debated on what the period and village, when the village existed, looked like in Japanese history. Next, value of existence, reason and purpose of every building was considered. Lastly, the shapes and structures of each building were studied. To reconstruct Yoshinogari, research in every field was conducted.

Settlement Study Appearance of the society in the Yayoi period

Questionnaire survey on principal village ruins

Research on the time, location and whole appearance of villages of national principal ruins in the Jomon, Yayoi and Kofun period was conducted.

Research of overseas cases

Sites of villages and remains of castles in China and Korea, which had supposedly influenced Yoshinogari in the Yayoi period, were examined. Also current ethnic issues were studied in order to gather intangible information such as how the social and world view at the time had related to forming the village.

Growth of villages in the Japanese Islands

The collected data on the growth of forming villages throughout Japan were put into shape, which clearly showed the characteristics of each period.

Study for the Yoshinogari Village

The present Yoshinogari Park took shape through examination of villages all over Japan and excavation research of the Yoshinogari sites.

In order to reconstruct an individual structure, structural remains found in the ruins throughout Japan from the Jomon to Kofun period, pictures people of the time drew, architectural technique and implements and, moreover, other related facilities were closely examined.
