Market Tower

This building was probably large in scale, differing from the other buildings in this area with its square shape, and a height similar to that of the ceremonial hall in the Northern Inner Enclosure. Pictures of markets in ancient China show tall structures, known as ‘market towers,’ keeping a lookout over the market. This suggests that the tall building located more or less in the center is the market tower. Referring to the shape of the structure in ancient Chinese pictures, the first floor had walls, and the second floor was an open structure with no walls.
