In the Yayoi period, burial jars were a common method of burial in northern Kyushu, and these large unglazed earthenware objects served as coffins for burial in the tomb. About 2,500 of them have now been excavated at the Yoshinogari ruins, and it is thought that there may be the remains of more than 15,000 of them in the burial mound. On the northern side of the Northern Burial Mound, the remarkable discovery was made of burial jars arranged neatly in two rows stretching more than 600 meters. It is not really known why this group of burial jars was lined up in two rows to make a kind of path in the very center. It could be a path designed for the purpose of worship. It could also be that there was a difference in social status between the people on the left and those on the right.
